Full Scale Conflict: Trials of existence

A quick impression for you: I don’t like it. No wait, I do like it. Actually, no I don’t. Hang on, this is good. Then again, not maybe it’s not. I don’t like it. No wait, I do like it. Actually, no I don’t. Hang on, this is good. Then again, not it’s not. I don’t like it. No wait, I do like it. Actually, no I don’t. Hang on, this is good. Then again, maybe not it’s not.
Do you have any idea what it is? No, it’s not Mrs Revenant, though that is a fucken good guess as she sure does exercise her womanly fucken right to change her fucken mind on every fucken issue whenever she fucken pleases, even after you have already fucken paid $1500 for a brand fucken new couch, she’s still allowed to change her fucken mind on the fucken colour if she wants to, OK? (I’m taking that well in case you didn’t notice).
The impression I was making was me, listening to this album. For you see, this album is a cross bred mongrel, combining two styles (being death metal and hardcore) together. This bits I liked were the death metal parts, which contain some great, crushing riffs and grooves. The bits I don’t like are, of course, the hardcore parts.
I will admit I have not listened to a lot of this style of music in the past, it’s just not something that appeals to me. Hardcore can fuck off as far as I am concerned. But that does not mean I can’t appreciate what these guys do. In fact, listening to this album I actually did grow some appreciation. The death inspired elements of the music are really good, to the point I could really find myself loving this band if they solely focused on that. And though I don’t enjoy the hardcore side of this, when I compare this to similar acts who do the same thing, I have to credit these guys for doing it damn well. I even found myself enjoying the hardcore in some parts, such as in the best track on the album, “Battalions of Fear” (which is not a Blind Guardian cover, just so you know), which has a wicked riff which suits the hardcore vocals incredibly well.
Musicianship and production, which I haven’t mentioned yet, are both top notch and I certainly have no gripes about this record in that regard. My overall impression of this is it’s a pretty solid effort, and if you are into this kind of thing, put this album to the top of your list of purchase intentions. For metal dinosaurs like me who don’t like their death metal tainted with hardcore, you may want be better off passing this one over.
Now if you excuse me, I have a couch that was the fucken right colour last week but the wrong fucken colour this week to change. Let’s give the score already…
